THE TRUE STORY OF OUR EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
Did you know that in Liguria “frantoio” is called gumbro? And the first time it was mentioned was the distant 1205.
Â
In Apricale in 1267, for the first time a protection was established for the fruit of the olive which sanctioned anyone who tried to steal it.
Â
The protection of the olive tree derived from the fact that the severe poverty that affected many strata of the population led people to steal and olives were a “simple fruit” both to pick and to eat .
Â
It was then in 1363 in Diano Castello that a statute regulating good neighborly relations was established both for the use of the ancient common oil mills and for the collection of fallen olives once the fruit was ripe.
